Meet Me Half Way

Winter had said adieu and
Paved way for spring.
The street was green with tiny grass
And bushes and trees.
Flowers blossomed, adding their colours to the spring.
Nora waited by the bush,

Her golden hair flying in the breeze,
Adding her own beauty to the spring.
Glancing down the lane, she waited for her beloved James
They had planned to elope that fine spring morning.
The butterflies danced joyfully around her
Comforting, saying in her ears, “he will come”.

Oh James! Why do you keep this
Young fairy waiting?
Nora thought of James’ words,
“Meet me half way”, he had said
Holding her hands, last night when they met.
A few men passed her occasionally
Though none did glance back at her.
Still she stood there, glancing down the lane.
Seconds, minutes, hours have passed
The lane had turned busy
Little children ran about
And so did cats and dogs.
People walked about busily

And none glanced back at her.
Oh James! Why do you keep this is
Young girl waiting?
With her eyes turned red and cheeks wet

She had waited too long.
Do you mean to test this girl
Of her sweet love?
Oh James! Don’t do that cruelty
To your innocent girl.
As Nora stood still, looking down the lane

She saw a possession approaching
And as it came close to her
She retreated, ‘twas a funeral possession.
They carried someone in a coffin where a
Hand had protruded
A strangely familiar hand it was
Which held her hand last night
“Meet me half way” , James had said
When they planned elopement
She saw that he had kept his word
And followed him, at peace.
